If you’re looking for a lightly-spiced yet super flavorful cookie, these lovely Biscochitos hit the mark!
With origins in Spain, Biscochitos are quite popular in New Mexico where it is said that they are the “official” state cookie. With aΒ great texture & lovely anise flavor combined with orange & a hint of cinnamon, these are a delightful addition to any holiday cookie tray or perfect for your next brunch.
We used star-shaped cookie cutters this time around but we’ve seen these in all different shapes including one of our favorites — the classic fleur-de-lis.
Happy Baking!

I’ve never heard of these but they sound so yummy! Maybe I can try it with gluten free flour π
Hi Alexa – My husband is the baker in our house and he thinks these will work very well with the gluten-free flour! Happy Holidays to you!
These Biscochitos sound delicious, I will be making them soon. I wish I would have tried one the last time I was in New Mexico, I love the flavor of anise.
They’re great, Mary! My husband sometimes adds a little more of the anise seeds – he likes them with even more spice sometimes! Happy Holidays to you!
I’ve never heard of these cookies before, but they sound awesome! Perfect and spicy for the holidays π
